Tweety...?I spotted this little LX beauty about 2 miles from my home, and since it appeared to be in such decent shape, I decided to go ahead and leave a note on the door of the house where the caddy was parked. I stated that I was the girl who drove the pink convertible rabbit they had probably seen around town, and that I was a mk1 Vw enthusiast, and thought they might be interested in selling the caddy to me, and if so, to please call me.
Well, for several months I heard nothing. I figured they must just not be interested in selling it, but I kept looking up the mountain every time I'd pass the road it was on, and sure enough, still there, never moving.
Then one day, out of the blue, I saw the caddy had moved!

Later that afternoon, I get a phone call.... they got my note!
Well, Don (the owner) said he was in fact interested in selling the caddy, and tells me it's a TURBO DIESEL
(which I have been wanting forever!!) said he was asking $2,500 for it, but he had to fix the master cylinder and make a trip to Oregon, and said he would call me when he returned.
Well, about 2 weeks later I got a call from Don again, saying the caddy was ready to go, if I wanted to come take a look at it. At first, I was a bit bummed, because I wasn't in a position to spring for the $2,500 he had originally said he was looking to get for it.... then towards the end of his voicemail, he stated that he was just going to ask $1,500 for it.
I called back immediately, and told him I'd be over in about 4 minutes to come check it out. So I headed over there to take it for a test drive. It drove beautifully!!!
While there are certainly a few flaws, the truck is ultimately in really good shape. Some small spots of rust here and there, but the engine bay has zero rust, and the truck is really solid.
Well, since the banks weren't open because it was a weekend, I could only get $1,250 in cash together until the banks opened on Monday, but I didn't want to wait that long, so I decided to go ahead and make him the offer of $1,250. He took it!
Updates...First, my favorite new modification... New shift knob... first gift to the Caddy from Sparky.

I've also replaced the amber turn signals with clear ones:
Next...Sparky drilled out the bumper shocks to compress the bumper...

And Sparky driving into a building to compress the front bumper...

Hopes and Plans...Since the caddy runs quite well with the Turbo Diesel motor, most of the performance changes tin the future will pretty much be just regular upkeep and maintenance.
As far as cosmetics go, I plan to fix a few spots of surface rust and a few dings (eventually), then respray it.
